Event Will Showcase Emerging Artists Nominated by 14 Top Dallas/Fort Worth Galleries

DALLAS – August 13, 2019 The Oak Cliff Society of Fine Arts – Turner House will present its sixth “Rising Star” exhibition and fundraiser September 14 and 15 at the historic Oak Cliff home. Fourteen prestigious North Texas galleries have each nominated one emerging Texas artist who is not yet represented by a gallery to be in the group show.

A fundraiser reception will be held Saturday, September 14 from 7:00 to 9:00 pm and will feature speaker Angela Hall, Director of Learning at The Dallas Contemporary. Ticket prices are $150.00 for Individual VIP Access; $100.00 for individuals (includes an individual membership to the OCSFA) and $75.00 for OCSFA members. Sponsorships are available and tickets may be purchased at the door. A public reception will be Sunday, September 15 from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Turner House, 401 N. Rosemont, Dallas, 75208.

This year we are again planning to raise funds for a juried “Turner House Award” given to one of the participating artists. According to artist Kenda North, co-chair of the event, the 100-year-old Turner House has a long history of showcasing Texas artists.  “Rising Star is an effort to continue that tradition and draw attention to some exciting new artists who are just beginning to gain attention in the art community, including such past Rising Stars as Angela Faz, Spencer Evans, and Rebecca Shewmaker.  Emerging artists are grateful for the opportunity to showcase their work to a thoughtful audience!”

Turner House is known for its annual Salon Series, celebrating music, art, and architecture, as well as free community-focused events. Located in the Winnetka Heights section of Oak Cliff, Turner House promotes the arts, celebrates life events, fosters community connections, and preserves history. The organization received the 2013 Stewardship Award from Preservation Dallas for its decades-long commitment to historic preservation.
